The city of La Plata celebrated its 142 years with a musical show at the Cathedral, which now shines thanks to new LED lighting and a renewed bell system.

More than 60 live musicians performed the Antarctic Symphony to accompany the inauguration of the sustainable exterior lighting of the Cathedral of La Plata. This project, called 'Lámina: light, heritage, and identity,' was designed by the local energy distributor with the aim of highlighting significant buildings, monuments, and public spaces in the city.

The event featured the presence of representatives from the clergy, business owners, university officials, distinguished citizens, and various local institutions. Nicolás Sorín, a recognized artist, provided a musical show during the inauguration ceremony.

The Cathedral recovered the melodies from the bell tower, which was repaired with the assistance of foreign technicians who implemented a computer system to restore it. More than 200 LED spotlights were installed to illuminate the iconic building, which has once again shone thanks to the donation from the group DESA, operator of the local energy distributor.

The symphonic show directed by Nicolás Sorín attracted neighbors and authorities, including Governor Axel Kicillof and the Mayor of La Plata, Julio Alak. This event marked the beginning of the celebrations for the city's 142nd anniversary.

The new lighting system was carried out in collaboration with the Province of Buenos Aires, the Municipality of La Plata, the Cathedral Foundation, and the Archbishopric, being blessed by the archbishop of the diocese, Monsignor Alberto Germán Bochatey. The external electrical renewal of the building and the installation of sustainable LED spotlights allow for considerable energy savings.

The project, led by experts in the preservation of historical monuments, has received support from local and university institutions. Additionally, restoration work is being carried out at the main headquarters of Edelap, in collaboration with local suppliers, with the aim of turning it into a public space for quality cultural events.
